A day fit for a queen

10 June 2019

Our residents enjoy the royal occasion Residents living in our Holy Cross Nursing Home in Sunderland were filled with pride and jubilation whilst celebrating the Queen's official birthday and Trooping the Colour.

Our residents were up bright and early to watch the festivities on the home's wide screen TV, so they didn't miss a thing.

Then, tucking into to a special brunch prepared by our chef at Holy Cross, they waited in anticipation as the spectacular military parade got under way.

After the parade ground had fallen silent, residents and staff got together to enjoy a good old fashioned British street party and a monarchy quiz, which ended in a friendly, three-way tie. Memories of street parties and parties with families came flooding back as our residents sent their best wishes to Her Majesty.

A singalong and delicious afternoon tea of homemade cakes – including a stunning centrepiece cake with Union Jack icing made by carer, Irene – completed the right royal afternoon.
